  • Retailer of the year
    This award cannot be entered directly as it will be determined by the judges. The winner of this most prestigious award is expected to be identified from within one of the categories announced at the awards ceremony evening.
  • Marketing Campaign of the year – Sponsored by Reading BID
    Awarded to the most innovative retail promotion. This could be a marketing or promotional campaign that is focused on the retail outlet itself or on a seasonal calendar event or specific launch or activity. Success should be quantified with results and can include POS, advertising material and photographs. It should be an initiative that relates specifically to the shopping population of Reading and show a measureable positive impact on consumer behaviour.
  • Independent retailer of the year – Presented by Broad Street Mall
    Awarded to an independent retailer who, in the judge’s opinion, demonstrates an individual, innovative and exemplary customer service experience either in-store or on-line including any type of click and collect service.  These businesses are usually greatly loved and supported by local shoppers and often provide a town with a special element of quality and uniqueness which is worthy of special recognition and local accolade.  To qualify for this category, the business will operate 5 or less outlets in the Reading Borough.
  • Multiple retailer of the year – Presented by The Hilton Hotel
    Awarded to a multiple retailer who, in the judge’s opinion, demonstrates an exemplary customer service experience in their store and / or on-line within the Reading Borough. Typically, these retail businesses are well known chains of shops and stores represented across the entire United Kingdom. They will invariably be household names that are continually evolving their own brand products and retail process which may also include click and collect services in order to increase their public popularity and share of consumer spend.
  • “Shooting Star” – Sponsored by Broad Street Bar & Kitchen
    Awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond their defined job role demonstrating an aptitude and commitment to delivering excellence in the retail environment. A superb platform to recognise and reward great customer service including trainees or apprentice’s within the business.
  • Manager of the year – Sponsored by Hammerson
    Awarded to a store manager from a retail store of any size that has demonstrated an excellence in the ability to deliver a brand or company’s values and message. They will have proven their ability in leadership, retail and general management skills. Possible areas for recognition could include; staff incentives or training, introductions of new services for the benefits of customers, environmental innovations and enhancements to customer satisfactions.
  • Innovation in the marketplace – Sponsored by Genting Casino
    This award highlights companies able to demonstrate successful implementation of change through innovation in retail strategy, products, procedures or technology. From technology and customer service, to in-store processes and the launch of new products, this award will recognise those who have put innovative practices in place for the benefit of customers, staff and the business alike. Examples could include a new EPoS system, self-checkout service, kiosk, touchscreen or mobile till point, to virtual fitting room technology, targeted marketing or an in-store customer ordering and collection feature.
  • Sustainability in retail – Sponsored by IKEA
    This award recognises commitment to sustainability above and beyond legislative requirements and expectations. Retailers should be able to demonstrate a positive impact across a number of areas that could include the environment. marketplace, workplace and or the local community.
  • Out of town award – Presented by The Reading Chronicle
    This award focuses on recognising destinations located outside of the town centre and the service they provide which may include but is not limited to retail parks, diy stores, motor dealers, service providers and leisure venues.
  • Health, Beauty and Well-being – Sponsored by Specsavers
    This category award is designed to recognise the salons, practises, health clubs and services or individuals who work within them that help to make our personal world a more healthy or beautiful place to live in. Whether it’s a hair stylist or beautician that has made you look and feel fabulous, a salon or practise that consistently provides an excellent environment, a talented newcomer to the industry or indeed somebody that has dedicated their entire life to the industry – this award provides a platform to acknowledge them.

Consumer based – Customer nominated:

  • Cafes, Coffee and Lunch – Sponsored by Premier & Angels School of Motoring
    Awarded to a coffee shop or cafe that has demonstrated quality and range in its products, good level’s of customer service, ambience and speed of service. This category can embrace a wide range of venues to sit down, drink tea, coffee or other non alcoholic beverages, rest, relax, meet friends or discuss business. It could be as simple as comfortable seating, nice surroundings, welcoming service or quality and value for money.
  • Restaurant of the Year – Presented by The Breeze 107 Reading
    This prestigious award will be presented to a formal dining restaurant and an informal restaurant (which may also include gastro pubs) that exceed customer expectations not only in levels of service and quality of food, but also choice. This may be a lunchtime or evening destination that demonstrates consistently great food with a warm and welcoming service.
  • Service With a Smile – Sponsored by Reading Buses
    Awarded to a retail person who has provided exemplary customer service with their efforts, attitude and product knowledge. A sales or service person that may have impressed you with the care and help shown to satisfy you or simply made you feel welcome!
  • Your Favourite Shop! – Presented by SM4 Events
    As the title suggests, this is your chance to tell us who your favourite retailer is! This could be a shop that you continually re-visit for a regular supply of products, rely on for great ideas, gifts or solutions, or maybe that last minute pint of milk!
